About

Ockford Farm is situated on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Northiam, home of the world renowned gardens of Great Dixter and in an area of outstanding Natural beauty in the heart of the Sussex countryside.
Bodiam Castle is one of the local attractions and the seaside town of Rye and its pictoresque harbour are just a short drive away.

The farm was run by two generation of the Williams family for over 50 years.
In 2010 it was bought to be established as a social enterprise, for the life-long care of a child with severe autism (now a teenager). We hope that James will be able to live on the farm for the rest of his days and that other teenagers and young adults with autism or other disabilities will be able to join him on the farm eventually – either through work placements, respite care for parents with autistic children or family holidays on the farm.

The commercial side of the farm revolves around 34 acres of various fruit (mostly apples and pears) that is sold directly via wholesalers to supermarkets.

The social enterprise side of the farm revolves around the farm shop and the picking of windfall apples or second quality apples that would otherwise be wasted. This aspect of the farm is undertaken with autism and the local community in mind.

One of the saddest aspects of the farm is to see premium fruit drop to the ground and being wasted when it is not viable to be picked by pickers commercially. We are hoping that with support from the Sussex autism community and local people in Northiam we will be able to introduce a picking regime that allows this fruit to be collected and distributed in the community.

We have a small self-service farm shop at the top of the drive and try to keep this stocked up with fresh apples as best as we can. Prices are £1 for 8-10 apples depending on variety.
Orders can be left on 01797-253 110 and local delivery can be arranged.

We will always provide low cost wholesale fruit to schools, clubs, care homes and other communities.
Do think of us when you need apples, pears or other fruit.
Thank you for your support.
